Summer Dawn Hortillosa at the The Jersey Journal heads out to JC and Hoboken to ask locals what’s hot for the summer!
Piece of Cake Parties founder, Jersey City
What are you up to this summer?
I don’t belong to any organization putting on an event (although I hope to one day) but I’m really looking forward to a lot of local stuff.
Like what?
Metal Mondays at Lucky 7’s (322 Second St., Jersey City)–Justin Bornstein spins awesome metal all night long–I believe it’s a monthly event. Also Jaguar Shark, Cicada Radio, Holy City Zoo, Modern Chemistry and The Cartwheelers are playing Lamp Post Bar and Grille (9 p.m., 383 Second St., JC) on June 28. They’re all super great Jersey bands and always put on an amazing show, Holy City Zoo especially. There’s also the Art House Summer Blowout that day (8 p.m., 1 McWilliams Pl., JC) I’m definitely going to check out.
There’s Barcade’s 3rd of July party (12 pm, 163 Newark Ave., JC) and that day is also the Desir Decir EP release with Awkward Girls and Black Wail at Lot 13 (10 p.m., 169 Avenue E, Bayonne) which is obviously going to be unbelievable. What else, what else? Hmmm…oh, the Lucky 7’s Rock ‘n’ Roll BBQ on the 12th (1 p.m., 322 Second St.), which is the day after my birthday so I’m going to be out guns blazing!
What other events would you like to see here?
Hmm…I was going to say the fireworks, but I’m super excited that those are here this year too! (Freedom and Fireworks Festival, July 4, 12 p.m. to 10 p.m., Liberty State Park, JC). And I’d love a really cheesy carnival here. I mean, those are always a good time.
