CULTR to Expand Presence at Jersey City’s Hudson House With New 12,000 SF Fitness and Wellness Concept

RXR announced today that CULTR has signed a lease to introduce CULTR Athletic Club, a new 12,000-square-foot fitness and wellness concept, at the Hudson House Collection in Jersey City’s SoHo West neighborhood. The new club will occupy ground-floor retail space at Radio Lofts, one of two newly opened rental buildings within the three-building development.

Expected to open in early 2027, CULTR Athletic Club will feature a high-end gym, boutique-style group classes, extensive recovery amenities and a café, all under one roof.

The new location represents an expansion for CULTR founder Richie Van Houten, who has operated CULTR Fight Club at Hudson House East for the past three years. That location will remain open and continue to focus on boxing, kickboxing, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai and other martial arts training.

CULTR Athletic Club will offer a distinctly different experience, designed to bridge the gap between boutique fitness studios and traditional full-service gyms. Approximately 6,000 square feet will be dedicated to open gym and training space featuring state-of-the-art equipment, along with strength, HIIT, yoga, mat Pilates and other group classes.

An approximately 3,500-square-foot wellness and recovery area will feature a 50-person sauna, 20-person steam room, hot pool and cold plunge. The club will also include a dedicated infrared hot yoga and Pilates studio and a café serving coffee, protein drinks and smoothies.

“We’ve been part of this neighborhood for three years and have watched it evolve around us,” said Van Houten. “With CULTR Athletic Club, we saw an opportunity to create something that doesn’t really exist here — a place where you can get a great workout, take a class, use high-level equipment and then recover with a sauna, steam or cold plunge, all in one environment. We want to create something that serves Hudson House and the neighborhood while also drawing people from throughout Jersey City and beyond, all while maintaining the sense of community that has always been important to CULTR.”

The club will occupy a prominent corner retail space at Radio Lofts with expansive windows and significant street presence. Van Houten envisions the café as a welcoming entry point to the club, fostering a neighborhood gathering place while providing access to the fitness and wellness spaces beyond.

“Richie has already built a strong following at Hudson House, and we’re excited to see him expand his presence here with the next evolution of the CULTR brand,” said Whitney Arcaro, executive vice president, RXR. “CULTR Athletic Club brings together fitness, wellness and community in a way that complements what we are creating across the Hudson House Collection and adds another compelling destination for both our residents and the surrounding neighborhood.”

Van Houten, a New Jersey native and former undefeated professional MMA fighter, founded CULTR after more than a decade in the fitness and martial arts industry. A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, he has trained and coached professional fighters while building CULTR around an inclusive approach to fitness and martial arts that serves both experienced athletes and people entering the disciplines for the first time.
CULTR Athletic Club is targeting an opening in the first quarter of 2027. Membership will primarily be offered on a monthly basis, with plans to limit enrollment to maintain the club’s experience and sense of community.
