Book Haven Books will hold its monthly Quiet Reading Club at Porta Jersey City on Wednesday, August 12, from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. The gathering will take place in the restaurant’s Monk Room, a private space at Porta’s location on Newark Avenue.

The event is a drop in style meetup where attendees bring whatever book they are currently reading and spend the evening reading quietly alongside others. There is no assigned title and no pressure to keep pace with anyone else, organizers say, just shared space and time set aside to slow down.

The reading club has become a recurring monthly event for Book Haven Books, popping up in different neighborhood spots around Jersey City each time. Attendance is free, but RSVPs are required through Eventbrite.
