Hudson County Community College to Hold First Annual ‘Food for Thought’ Conference on Sustainability, Community Gardening and Farm-to-Table

The Culinary Arts Institute at Hudson County Community College is having its first Annual Food for Thought event next week, Wednesday April 5th. The focus is sustainability, community gardening and farm to table. There will be expert panelists, 3 different food workshops, complimentary tastings and refreshments and it’s free and open to the community! REGISTER

Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the demand for chefs and head cooks at restaurants and other establishments will grow 9%, faster than most other industries in the country. With the popularity of cooking shows and competitions, more and more people are discovering the field of culinary arts and what it takes to be successful in the industry. Earning a certificate or degree in the field not only provides the experience and training needed to get your foot in the door, it also provides a  foundation for upward mobility to become future leaders and trend setters in the industry.

Best Choice Schools (BCS) looked at culinary schools across the United States to develop a list of what we believe to be the 50 best culinary schools or programs in the nation. From their initial list, they looked for schools that offer hands-on experience, internship/externship opportunities, student operated restaurants, modern facilities, and a solid reputation in the industry.

BCS only looked at schools that were nationally accredited or accredited by the American Culinary Federation.

2015-06-15_14-12-21Hudson County Community College Foundation‘s 13th Annual Golf Outing will take place on Monday, July 6, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. at the Forest Hill Field Club in Bloomfield.

Area residents and businesses are invited to participate in activities for golfers and non-golfers alike to help raise funds to help alleviate financial burdens of deserving HCCC students.

Donations will also provide seed money for development of HCCC buildings and new programs. Donor and sponsorship opportunities range from $50 to $6,000.

The foundation has awarded more than 2,000 scholarships totaling $2 million to students since its establishment in 1997.

Opened in 2008, the Culinary Conference Center is located on the campus of Hudson County Community College and managed by FLIK Conference Centers. The Culinary Center is home to the Culinary Arts Institute, the Center for Business & Industry, as well as non-credit culinary classes. We are also an IACC (International Association of Conference Centersapproved conference center.

The Culinary Conference Center offers 12 meeting rooms, 9 professional kitchens, 2 banquet rooms and a pre-function room that can serve as a bar or lounge. In addition, the entire facility is wireless.

Since our arrival, we’ve become a vibrant part of Journal Square, partnering with Jersey City organizations such as the historic Loews Theatre and the Hudson Chamber of Commerce.  We’ve also been featured in Buddy Valastro’s Cake Boss: Next Great Baker on TLC.
