Panepinto Properties recently announced that MENSHO, the world-renowned ramen “Farm to Bowl” destination recognized by the Michelin Guide for nearly a decade, is set to make its highly anticipated East Coast debut at 505 Summit in Jersey City’s Journal Square neighborhood. The restaurant is expected to open in fall 2026.
Founded in Japan in 2005, MENSHO has expanded globally with locations across Japan, the United States, Australia, and Thailand under concepts including “MENSHO,” “Menya Shono,” and “MENSHO TOKYO.” The Journal Square location will mark the brand’s first East Coast outpost.

Located on the ground floor of the newly completed 54-story luxury rental tower adjacent to the Journal Square PATH station, MENSHO will occupy a portion of the building’s 3,200 square feet of ground-floor retail space, fronting a new public plaza created by Panepinto Properties. MENSHO will serve both residents of 505 Summit and the broader community, adding a distinctive new dining option to a neighborhood long known for its diverse and active food scene.
“At 505 Summit, our goal was to create a building that feels connected to Journal Square, not just physically but as part of what’s happening in the neighborhood day to day,” said Joseph A. Panepinto Sr., President & CEO of Panepinto Properties. “MENSHO is a great example of that. They bring something truly distinctive to the retail space, and it’s the kind of operator that serves as an extended amenity for our residents and the wider community.”
Founded in Tokyo by chef Tomoharu Shono, MENSHO has built a reputation for elevating traditional ramen through innovative techniques, house-made noodles, and carefully developed broths and flavors. Guided by its “Farm to Bowl” philosophy, the brand emphasizes sourcing high-quality ingredients and developing location-specific concepts designed to reflect the surrounding community and culture.

“Opening in New Jersey as our first East Coast location is a meaningful step for us,” said Tomoharu Shono, CEO of MENSHO Inc. “We’ve expanded in places like San Francisco, Hawaii, and Singapore, but each new city brings its own culture and expectations around food. That’s what excites us about Journal Square. It’s a neighborhood where many cultures meet, and we felt we could really grow here—not just bring MENSHO as it exists today but evolve it with the community. Through each bowl, our goal is simple: to create something that feels honest, welcoming, and connected to the people who experience it.”

The arrival of MENSHO reflects continued investment in Journal Square, reinforcing the neighborhood’s position as one of Jersey City’s most active mixed-use districts. Alongside new residential development, the area has seen steady expansion in dining, retail, arts, and cultural offerings, supported by exceptional regional connectivity through the Journal Square PATH station. The MENSHO signing follows a successful leasing launch at 505 Summit, with strong initial activity since the building came to market earlier this year and residents now moving in. Five fully furnished model residences, merchandised by Panepinto Interiors and Regina Mariano Design, offer an opportunity to view the scale, layouts, and finishes of the homes firsthand.
