2017-05-02_9-48-33Celebrate Father’s Day with the grandfather of modern Western music: Johann Sebastian Bach! Con Vivo Music presents its semi-annual Bach Concert on June 18, featuring mezzo-soprano Sarah Nelson Craft and oboist Christa Robinson in a concert of Bach’s most intimate chamber music for voice, oboe, string quartet, harpsichord, and organ. The concert will be performed at the gorgeous Cathedral Hall in downtown Jersey City, an acoustically ideal venue for Bach’s masterful compositions.

2017-bach-concert-webJohann Sebastian Bach was primarily known for his skills as an organist, as were his relatives. In fact, there were so many members of the Bach family employed as organists that the name Bach became synonymous with being an organist. J.S. Bach who, by some estimates, wrote approximately twenty minutes of music for every day of his life, is most frequently associated today with his large and magnificent cantatas, the Goldberg Variations written for harpsichord, and for music students, his counterpoint exercises, though his ultimate output was far more prolific. A relatively conservative composer in his lifetime, his experiments in the mathematics of musical tones and chromaticism weren’t truly understood for their brilliance until more than a century after his death. For this year’s Bach Concert, Con Vivo presents a wide panoply of Bach’s style and achievements, from the elegance of his intimate keyboard works, to the athleticism of his oboe and string repertoire.
