Nijawwon Matthews is a Resident teacher/choreographer for The Joffrey Ballet School based in New York City. Mr. Matthews is also a faculty teacher and dancer for TOKYOTHECCOMPANY under the direction of Kevin “Tokyo” Inouye & Alisha Lorraine Captain. As a dancer, he had the opportunity to perform with several companies including Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble, Deeply Rooted Dance Theater, Philadanco, Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company, and Wylliams/Henry Contemporary Dance Company. As a dance educator and choreographer, Mr. Matthews has travelled nationally and internationally to instruct master classes for a host of academic schools, dance studios, and professional companies. To his credit, Nijawwon Matthews orchestrated theatrical performances for Partnership For Results, a community-wide after-school youth program under the direction of Susan Muldoon. Recently, he assisted and was a guest artist for the artistic director/choreographer Cecilia Marta Dance Company. Nijawwon simply enjoys connecting and hopes that all of his experiences will help create opportunities for dancers to work.
NimbusPresents OFFLINE 5.7-5.8.16, featuring 7 outstanding choreographers, represents a range of contemporary dance in the New York and New Jersey region. The performances are presented as part of the NimbusPresents Salon Series where artists are presented in Nimbus’ intimate studio theater followed by Artist Talkbacks and panel discussions, bringing audiences into close proximity with artists and the artistic process.
