Summer is here and the Annual Jersey Fresh Farmers Markets are in full swing all over Jersey City. Jersey Fresh is an advertising and promotional program developed by the New Jersey Department of Agri- culture in 1983 to publicize the wide variety of fruits and vegetables which are grown here in the Garden State, providing residents with delicious, nutritional, fresh, home grown alternatives at reasonable prices.
Farmers Market shoppers also reduce their carbon footprint by purchasing locally grown and produced goods, getting more nutritional bang for their buck. Best of all, by the middle of summer, there will be a Farmers Market for every day of the week, making healthy shopping easier and better than it’s ever been before.
Jersey City now has seven of Hudson County’s Jersey Fresh Farmers Markets, where consumers can find a wide variety of goods, including fresh organic and conventional fruits and vegetables, baked goods – even seafood, fresh mozzarella, pickles, and flowers. While vendors and goods vary seasonally from market to market, all Jersey Fresh Community Markets include some vendors who accept Women, Infants, Children (WIC) and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) vouchers.
