Jersey’s Best Highlights Hoboken Hot Spots, Just a Stone’s Throw Away from Jersey City

Jersey’s Best recently published an article titled, “24 Hours in Hoboken: A hive of activity awaits you any time of year within the Mile Square City,” covering everything available to you in Hoboken, which is an ideal guide for Jersey City residents looking to expand their activities list!

To start, Jersey’s Best highlights the fascination Hoboken has with Frank Sinatra, as you can walk in his legendary footsteps through the Hoboken Historical Museum’s Frank Sinatra Walking Tour map. While you can pick up the tour at any point, they recommend starting at the iconic 415 Monroe St. It is also recommended that visitors double check online to see if any COVID-19 restrictions will halt their tour. The last stop on the tour is the Frank Sinatra Memorial Park, which was dedicated in his memory and overlooks the Hudson River with stunning views of Manhattan.

Moving onto the waterfront of Hoboken, these are some of the most anticipated spots to stop at according to Jersey’s Best:

Pier 13

A short hop from the 14th Street Ferry is Pier 13, Hoboken’s seasonal open-air waterfront beer garden, which features food trucks, water sports and entertainment options ranging from live music to movie nights. Everything is outdoors, so keep weather in mind when planning a day here.

Maxwell Place Park

This compact green space on the Hudson River has a waterfront walkway, beach area and a small toddler playground. Unfortunately there is no swimming allowed, but fret not, if you want to hop in you just have to head next door to…

Hoboken Cove Community Boathouse

Run by volunteers in cooperation with the City of Hoboken and offering free kayaking to the public, the boathouse is open weekends from late spring to early fall, weather permitting. Currently the season is paused due to COVID-19, but you can keep updated by following their social media @hobocobo on Instagram.

Hudson River Waterfront Walkway

The New York City views from a bench, a bike or walking is perfect for any season. Viewfinders are spread across the walkway for visitors to get the best perspectives.

Pier C Park

This bean-shaped park on a pier jutting off the Waterfront Walkway has two playgrounds, grassy picnic and play areas, and a beach pit with bleachers what entice visitors to climb for an ultimate viewing experience.

Pier A Park

Bring a blanket, a picnic, a frisbee or ball and head to the great lawn at Pier A Park to enjoy a perfect sunny day with some friends. During summer, Pier A is the site of Movies Under the Stars, concerts as well as weekly evening fitness and yoga classes.

The Hoboken Historical Museum

The Hoboken Historical Museum is a must not only for history buffs, don’t walk past 1301 Hudson St. without taking a detour inside.

As for the vast artistic community in Hoboken, Jersey’s Best recommends the following pit stops while hopping around Hoboken:

Monroe Center for the Arts

A hub for local artists and entrepreneurs, you can find talent from A to Z in all forms, including artisans of jewelry, cuisine, photography, architectural and interior design, dance, wellness and more at 720 Monroe St.

Barsky Gallery

You’ll want to plan ahead to visit the Barsky Gallery and check its site for public event dates and open hours to view the extensive works by contemporary artists.

Barsky Gallery (Hoboken) - 2020 All You Need to Know BEFORE You Go ...

To finish off the list of hot spots in Hoboken, Jersey’s Best had to include the main  thoroughfare of Washington Street, where sidewalks leave room for folks to stroll, restaurants to offer outdoor seating and shops for everyone. Washington Street was even dubbed one of America’s Top 10 Great Streets by the American Planning Association.

Hoboken’s restaurant scene includes places that have been around forever along with those adventurous and new; from American to Italian and around the globe, every ethnic cuisine is represented. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served — find just the meal you need to keep you fueled for a day of shopping. Unique and trendy boutiques outnumber chain stores in Hoboken, and you’ll find chic, one-of-a-kind clothing and accessories at every turn.

If that wasn’t enough, Hoboken also has plenty of bars with live music, DJs and dancing will keep you busy as long as you want.

Cavany Foods to open gourmet market at 235 Grand in Jersey City

235 Grand Exterior

Cavany Foods, a full-service meal preparation company that offers its customers fresh, organic food delivered directly to their front door, has signed a lease for a 1,750 square-foot space at 235 Grand in downtown Jersey City, the luxury rental building’s developers KRE Group and Ironstate Development Company announced today.

The company will utilize the space for its first ever retail location, with a gourmet market offering everything from prepared breakfast, lunch and dinner meals to coffee, desserts and other treats. The gastronomic company is relocating its existing commercial kitchen from Jersey City’s Bergen-Lafayette neighborhood to 235 Grand, where it will continue to focus on its popular home-delivery service that’s operated through an app.

“Cavany Foods is a local business with a loyal following and a high-quality product. We’re delighted to partner with them on their first retail location,” said Jonathan Kushner, president of KRE Group. “When we select a retail tenant for one of our buildings, we consider the impact it will have on our residents and the community at large.  In this case, the benefit was clear.”

Cavany Foods was founded in 2017 by Chef Alejandro Ferrer who hails from Venezuela, attended the School for Food and Hotel Management in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and today calls Jersey City home.  The modern kitchen concept became a staple at the annual Grove Street Farmers Market, and quickly built up a loyal following of patrons who responded to its variety of gourmet recipes ranging from Continental and American cuisine to delicious vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options, as well as its sourcing of fresh, local ingredients.  It also launched a popular subscription meal delivery service, bringing hundreds of local residents “the freshness of real organic food to your door.”

With customers asking when he was going to open a brick-and-mortar location and more than 80% of its clientele coming from downtown Jersey City, Chef Ferrer decided 235 Grand was the ideal place to support both his current business model and his plans for future growth.

Chef Alejandro Ferrer

“We decided to open at 235 Grand because it is in an area with a lot of pedestrian traffic, close to the PATH and the downtown commercial district and near our existing customer base,” Chef Ferrer said.  “We also like the idea of setting up shop in a brand new building whose residents will essentially be using us like room service.  It’s the perfect location for our business to grow.”

Cavany Foods’ current app-based meal delivery service is a popular option for customers who want to eat inspired meals made with local, organic ingredients and prepared by a professional chef. Business for the company is up 50% since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Ferrer, with more people working from home, ordering multiple meals per day and desiring fresh, healthy food.

“We are proud to be serving the community during these challenging times and are thankful that we are able to contribute to the health and well-being of our customers in our own way,” Chef Ferrer said. “At the same time, we are planning for a brighter future. We believe our gourmet market at 235 Grand will be a popular neighborhood destination, giving us an opportunity to offer an in-store experience while also expanding our app-based, home delivery service.”

Cavany Food’s app-based service is live.  For more information, visit The company is currently offering new customers a 20% discount on their first order.

The LEED®-certified 235 Grand luxury rental building features 549 residences.  The 46-story building offers modern indoor and outdoor amenities, dramatic views and a convenient location within walking distance of light-rail, PATH, and NY Waterway ferry service.  More than 90% of the studios, one- and two-bedroom residences have been leased, with The Marketing Directors overseeing the successful leasing program.

Time for Fall Cocktails

fall-cocktail-recipe-chowhound-670x446Autumn/ Winter Cocktails from Jersey City’s Piggyback Bar and NYC’s Pig and Khao

As we pack start to pack away our summer essentials  and pull out the sweaters and boots, it’s also time to switch up the bar cart and replace those fruity, light flavors with deeper, warmer profiles. Ben Byruch, operations manager and beverage curator of Jersey City’s Piggyback Bar and NYC’s Pig and Khao, has put together cocktails that showcase these warm and seasonal flavors.

We would love for you to consider their cocktails in any fall cocktail recipe roundups you may be working on.

  • Stinky Peat – A fan favorite at Pig and Khao, the cocktail is an infusion of chamomile rye and elderflower, providing a pleasant, flowery taste cut with a subtle, smoky bite from a scotch rinse.
  • Winter Root – This creation is ideal for the fall/winter months and offers spicier notes from its base of ginger whiskey and the signature, housemade five spice blend syrup featuring hints of clove, anise, all spice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Topped with a quick dash of Peychaud’s bitters, the cocktail is truly fall in a glass.
