According to jcitytimes.com, the Jersey City Jazz Festival begins on Friday, May 30 and continues through June.
The twelfth annual JCJF is also an expansive one — satellite concerts at local bars and clubs begin on Tuesday, May 27, a full three days before the main event kicks off at Exchange Place.
Among the eighteen acts scheduled to appear on the two big stages on the waterfront are Tyreek McDole (Saturday, May 31, 7 p.m.), the gritty Haitian-American singer who scored the top prize at 2023 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition, the protean synthesizer player Sam Barsh (Saturday, May 31, 2 p.m.), who’s as comfortable collaborating with pop artists like Kanye West and Bruno Mars as he is when he’s swinging with Branford Marsalis and Ravi Coltrane, and Artemis (Saturday, May 31, 3 p.m.), a quartet of accomplished musicians directed and led by Renee Rosnes, a pianist with an idiosyncratic and frequently fascinating approach to harmony.
Many of these individual concerts don’t have a cover. It’s entirely possible to have a great time at the Jersey City Jazz Festival without paying a cent. But if you want to guarantee that you’ll see the shows on the big stages at Exchange Place, it helps to buy a badge. This year, the weekend-only ticket costs $95, and it’s $125 for an all-access pass to every JCJF-affiliated event.
