Four New Retailers Announced in Jersey City’s Bergen-Lafayette

Bergen-Lafayette’s rapid ascent to one of Jersey City’s most desirable new residential destinations has been bolstered recently by four contemporary new dining options that are being introduced within The Bergen Lafayette Collection, a series of bespoke mixed-use properties that have reshaped this energizing neighborhood.

Slated to open in the months ahead are Eggs Up, a breakfast café in the 24-story Atlas rental high-rise at 270 Johnston Street, and MochiDough/BoberTea, a premium Japanese donut and bubble tea shop in the Starling rental building at 66 Monitor Street – both of which will debut in August.  They will be followed by the expected opening of Cheeky’s “New Orleans-style” sandwiches this fall in The Hazel at 89 Monitor Street

MochiDough/BoberTea, a premium Japanese donut and bubble tea shop, is expected to open in August in the Starling rental building at 66 Monitor Street. Jersey City. The Roxy, a new venture between some of the team behind Corto in Jersey City Heights, opened its doors at the property in spring.

The new retailers will bring an even wider selection of everyday dining choices to residents of Bergen-Lafayette, which has welcomed an eclectic mix of dining, café and shopping experiences in its transformation to a complete urban lifestyle neighborhood.  Renters within The Bergen Lafayette collection will have immediate access to tasteful delights that range from coffee, baked goods and desserts to deli-style food options and fine dining.  This includes The Roxy, a new venture between some of the team behind Corto in Jersey City Heights, which opened its doors this spring in Starling.

The Bergen Lafayette Collection is the creation of partners Alpine Residential and Fields Grade, two development firms committed to enriching Bergen-Lafayette with new rental buildings that boast world-class amenities and supportive street-level retail space.   The Bergen Lafayette Collection will boast nearly 1,000 apartments housed in five mixed use buildings that enrich the area and community.

“We are excited to welcome these new eateries to The Bergen Lafayette Collection,” said William Rosato, Managing Partner of Alpine Residential.  “They are important additions to a neighborhood that’s experienced significant growth over the past few years and become a hotbed of residential activity and new community services.”

South Oxford Management, Alpine’s affiliated management company, is directing the leasing and management of The Bergen Lafayette Collection.  A portfolio-wide website has been launched at  https://bergenlafayettecollection.com/ that provides full details on the high-end properties in the offering. Included in The Bergen Lafayette Collection are:

  • Atlas: The 24-story Atlas is the tallest building in Bergen Lafayette and offers 169 studios, one-, two- and three-bedroom residences, of which 60% have been leased.
  • Starling: The boutique six-story rental building features just 39 studio-to-three-bedroom residences.
  • The Hazel Jersey City: A 201-home rental property located at 89 Monitor Street.
  • Solaris Lofts:  Located at 65 Maple Street, the five-story rental building offers 72 residences.
  • Scholar’s Village:  Liberty Science Center selected Alpine Residential to develop Scholars Village on the banks of Liberty State Park and in the heart of the SciTech Scity innovation hub.   Slated to begin in the 2nd quarter of 2024, the project will feature 500 design-forward residences and retail space.
Eggs Up, a breakfast café, is expected to open this summer in the 24-story Atlas rental high-rise at 270 Johnston Street, Jersey City.

Lying just west of Downtown Jersey City, Bergen-Lafayette has benefited from significant investment and city-backed infrastructure improvements, including the extension of Jersey Avenue for pedestrians, bicyclists and vehicular traffic that have created better connections to downtown, while existing light rail service links the neighborhood to PATH trains and ferry terminals and ultimately, Manhattan.

Anchoring the neighborhood is the Liberty Science Center with its ever-evolving interactive museum experience, and future SciTech Scity.
